About
The Theorists are honored to announce Theorist Practicum, an artistic exchange program for artistic ambassadors from Texas, México, Canada, and Israel to train, collaborate, perform, and tour cross-boarders. Our 2018/19 Season features 12 workshops, 15 master classes, 9 performances, and 3 festivals in Austin, Tel Aviv, CDMX, Cuernavaca, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Vera Cruz, Puebla, Hermosillo, Dallas, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Seattle, Brownsville and Vancouver, Canada.
Cross-training includes Gaga, ballet, Countertechnique®, anatomy, production, management, private coaching for choreographic commissions, & movement laboratories with Theorist Fellows in physics, physiology, technology, geography & mathematics. Applicants should have at least three years of making work that is primarily investigating the intelligence of the body relevant to their role as citizen/artists and a daily personal practice of performance.
Each applicant co-creates a personal residency timeline in conversation with The Theorists to serve their professional development over the course of 1 year. In addition to one-on-one feedback and a choreographic practice residency, they have access to TBX workshops in Austin and sister programs in México and Canada.
The one year residency includes:
8 months of online training & personal feedback
1 month on-site residency in Austin & abroad
3 months of personal performance practice self work & feedback
Applications are currently open through September 1, 2019 for the 2019/20 Season
Applicants will be notified by November 1, 2019.
