About The Event
This residency with Our Wild explores the intricate details of the Hofesh Shechter movement style and researches improvisation for performance techniques. The workshop will include two tracks. The Technique Track highlights a unique technique class lead by Ayelet Nadav, phrases in the Hofesh movement style and Repertory from the Hofesh Shechter Dance Company.
The Creative Track continues with group exercises lead by Shane Scopatz in improvisation for performance technique based on his professional career with The Batsheva Ensemble and Inbal Dance Theater among others. The dancers will work on developing skills of awareness, creative stamina and real time composition abilities. Contemporary Dancers today rarely have time carved out to develop such skills outside of a choreographic process. This workshop will serve as a laboratory. A place to experiment.
Theorist Fest has commissioned a dance film project investigating migration patterns of southwestern wildlife, especially desert animals that cross freely along the border. Applicants of all genders, abilities and ages over 17+ are encouraged to join in the evenings Friday & Sunday-Tuesday.
*15 participants will be accepted by through August 10, 2018.
Limited number of drop-ins will be made available August 11th.

OUR WILD (A Wilderness Artist Partnership):
We are Shane Scopatz and Ayelet Nadav and we make up the artist partnership, Our Wild. Our artistic background is in contemporary dance and choreography. We met while performing for the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv, Israel. After working together for a couple of years we found we share an obsession for Nature and each have huge appetite to make our own work. We knew then, we had to work together and we knew we had to make work about the wild places we care so much about.
Since 2014 we have been working together as artistic collaborators. The art we make is multi-disciplinary and often performative. Using choreography, video, and text we make collaged choreographic essays. Our work is committed to discussions of ecology, wilderness, and conservation and our process is heavily weighted in field research. We believe a rigorous study of land through boots on the ground and paddles in water is essential to our art making. We also draw inspiration from nature and adventure writers like Edward Abbey, Aldo Leopold, John Wesley Powell, and Cherry Apsley-Garrard.
We make the kind of work we make, because we believe that contemporary art has an important role to play in the advancement of Aldo Leopold’s Land Ethic. Making work about wilderness provides a platform that enables us to make work that comments on ethics, capitalism, and human rights. Wild spaces inspire us and fill us with a sense of obligation to create.
TBX has given more than $15,000 in scholarships. Please consider sharing our story and giving the gift of dance & buy our SWAG! All donations are tax-deductible and will be matched dollar per dollar!
