Damon Green

Damon is a dance artist and the founder of TEXTUREDance Studio, an urban dance school located on Chicago’s north side. Green is a prominent contemporary performer in Chicago, working with The Seldoms since 2007, and also continuing to explore and perform the form of Voguing, in its fusion with contemporary vocabulary, working frequently with choreographer Darrell Jones and Paige Cunningham-Calderalla. In 2010, Timeout Chicago named Green one of the "Top 10 Men of Dance". His studio, TextureDance, is a home for the contemporary dancer, and offers training in Vogue, Modern, Street Jazz and Hip-Hop to youth, teen and adults.

The Seldoms

We are a Chicago-based dance company that values making intelligent, visually rich dance theater driven by inquiry. We ground our inquiry in contemporary issues and the history of art and ideas, toward our pursuit of bold, exacting and potent physicality.

The Seldoms is in its sixteenth year. Under Carrie Hanson’s direction, the company is committed to bringing audiences an expanded experience of dance that ignites thought and understanding of real-world issues. With dance at the center of the work, the company’s vision extends to a total action and environment and includes collaboration with practitioners in fields as diverse as architecture, installation, video, sound, and fashion. With full-length works on pressing issues, such as the 2008 economic recession, political power, and the ongoing climate change debate, The Seldoms has built a reputation for “well-crafted and researched works that don’t hold forth a political agenda, but look instead at how these towering issues reflect back on our own humanity” (New City, which named The Seldoms Best Local Dance Company in 2012).

Millie Heckler

Millie Heckler is a dance lecturer and M.F.A. Candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated from University of Colorado Boulder where she received a  B.F.A. degree in Dance.   At CU she studied with a variety of artists, including Rennie Harris, Onye Ozuzu, Gesel Mason, Erika Randall, Donna Meija, Nii Armah Sowah and Michelle Ellsworth, where the program is driven by a dedication to multi-cultural dance education and where she was first introduced to authentic hip hop culture.  Millie is an original member and principal dancer of the new street dance theater company, Rennie Harris Grass Roots Project, founded by the world-renowned hip hop genius, Rennie Harris.  In the past two years, she has toured with Harris nation-wide, and worked with companies including Alvin Ailey and Rennie Harris PureMovement.  Currently residing in Brooklyn with a burning hunger for physical, intellectual and spiritual knowledge, Millie is eager to continue venturing on her unfolding artistic path.
