Class Description & Philosophy:

My class draws its inspiration from the various experiences I have had throughout my career, whether in contemporary, modern-jazz or ballet training.

We start with a pre warm-up directly inspired from yoga technique with active stretches to loosen the body and create more space within; already connecting the breath with the movement, proposing a more centered and available body for more complex movements.

The warm up will be at the barre or in the center (as wished), with a mixture of classical technique, as well as a lot of upper body movement, body weight, opposition, breathing and sound.

The class then leads up to a piece of set choreography, where the dancers will challenge their technique, their understanding of space (around and within), and their own interpretation.

Often dancers can only afford one class a day. It is essential for this class to be complete so that they can remain in shape mentally and physically, in order to be prepared for the various casting calls and auditions they may have.

I want to start with who they are and what they have in terms of physical abilities. I aspire to challenge and better these abilities by giving them varied choreography that will teach them how to use their bodies at full efficiency, with accuracy and precision, without losing their personalities or qualities in the process. Dancers are magicians and storytellers in which they use the movement to speak their truths.

For the sake of dance, Manuel is dedicated to the physical, mental and artistic development of the dancer, encouraging people of all ages and various levels to surpass themselves.

Bio:

French choreographer based in New York, studied at The Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse de Paris and went on to work with different french contemporary companies including Claude Brumachon, Corinne Lanselle and Bernardo Montet.

He was a dance artist with both Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève (Switzerland), and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (New York) where he collaborated with inspiring choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Andonis Foniadalkis, Hofesh Shechter, Cisco Aznar, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Carolyn Carlson, Benjamin Millepied and Ohad Naharin to name a few.

Manuel appeared as a guest for La La La Human Steps (Canada), Het Nationale Ballet (Netherland) and State Theatre (South Africa). He has also been an assistant to modern-jazz choreographer, Redha, on various productions. Such productions include concert dance, television, film, fashion, musical theater, and operas in which he often performed in.

Manuel has been commissioned by Ailey II, Whim W’him, Satellite Collective, 10 Hairy Legs, Chicago Repertory Ballet, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company Steps Repertoire Ensemble , The Ailey School , Rutgers University, UT at Austin TX, Booker T.Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Springboard and Antigel Festival.

He has performed his work with Manuel Vignoulle - M/motions at Jacob’s Pillow, Fire Island Festival, Bryant Park and in France, Switzerland, Mexico, Brazil and USA.
